Student Feedback
Here are
some of the comments left by the students regarding their experiences with
tutors not only in the labs, but also on discussion boards, homework
grading, and midterm and final review sessions. The tutor's names have
been changed to protect their identity.

"TutorX
knows what he is talking about. He has a great command of what is going on
with each homework, and he really helps explains the concepts well like
the pointer to pointer, and he doesn't just tell you the answer to solve
the problem, but points you in the right direction tosolve the problem.

was very helpful, she knew what was going on in the assignment so she gave
me a lot of help that I understood. And I felt comfortable with her
helping me."

tutors for cse12 this quarter were great. They were all very willing to
help as well as very knowledgable about basic data structures. I found
TutorX, TutorY, and TutorZ to be the most helpful. Each of them had a
strong conceptual understanding of the run time environment. They really
helped students understand what was happening behind the scenes in our
assignments."
"Great
job. They are informative without giving the answer away. They do this by
asking the students questions (making the student think) and thus leading
the student down a path to the answer instead of just giving the answer to
the student. Comments from tutors on the web board: Almost as good as
being in the lab. Just about real time on answers. The answers were
complete and thought provoking."

tutors this quarter were great. I especially found [them] to be very
helpful in not only our programs, but in explaining the concepts behind
them. TutorX was particularly creative in making me think about what was
really going on in the program, rather than blindly writing in
code."

are a few tutors I would like to mention for their work in the lab.
TutorX- saved me so many countless hours of work. And he didn't just give
me some answer and move on. In fact, he didn't know the answer himself,
but he was willing to sit down with me and help me figure it out,letting
me solve the final problem."
"In the
lab I thought tutorX was amazing. Not only was he extremely helpful, he
really took the time to help students who needed help. Most of his help
came from group explanation of concepts rather than just looking at code
and saying what was wrong. Another thing was that I always saw him in the
lab even 5 hours after he was suppose to be out."

wanted to put in a good word for tutorX. She was super fast at getting the
assignments graded which help a lot since the past assignments are needed
to work on the current one. Her assistance was greatly
appreciated"

following two tutors have helped me immensely toward my success in this
class. If it were not for them, I would've dropped out a long time ago.
TutorX always provides me with solid guidance in where I should be heading
in my program. He is so reliable that I have consistently woken up
Wednesdays and Thursdays at early hours (8AM) when I rarely do just to
seek help.TutorY was a very great tutor. He is calm and well spoken for,
always providing me with guidance and helping me understand the program
well enough for me to keep going. He is great."
"Overall
you picked a great set of tutors. TutorX: Although my question was
answered in a handout Q&A, I missed it and asked her why my program
was behaving the way it was. Whereas it would be very easy to make me feel
stupid for asking, she alerted me to this in the most polite way and then
made sure that I understood what was going on and why the solution was
what it was. In general she is knowledgeable and carries a pleasant
demeanor, something desperately needed in a the dungeon that is our lab.
TutorY: Quick precise, and able to help. Technical ability seems strong.
TutorZ: Was able to help me solve my worst headache problem. His
dedication to helping people in the lab is unreal. Often I'd see him under
the pressure of doing his grading work but never refuse to help someone if
they had a problem. He was in the lab many times when it wasn't even his
duty to be in the lab. Cheerful demeanor too. Also, All the tutors who did
the midterm and final review sessions did a good job with that.

was super-friendly, and super-willing to give advice. I like the fact that
she was so willing to help people and she had a cool
personallity."

[my grader] did a good job of telling me what was wrong [with my
assignments] so that i could fix it. He was very good at leading me in the
right direction to where my errors were so that i could look over my code
again and run it for myself, so i could learn from my mistakes (as can be
seen by my improvement over the quarter)"
